UPDATE: The following guide, originally written for Firefox 2, has been used successfully on Firefox 3, 3.5, 3.6, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. Users of edition (same versions) also have been successful using this guide. The Windows computers available at my University permits login only by autenticated users (students) who don't have Administrator access and permissions. Installing software on those PC is then not possible. Recently they finally installed Firefox 2 but without the Flash plugins, which is absolutly useful/needed. Install Flash Player Without McafeeInstall Flash Player Without Administrative PrivilegesI then tryed to install the Flash Player using the 'standard' way (click on the missing plugin link then install the plugin.). However without administrator plugins it was not possible to install. Then I started doing some tests trying to install the plugin manually. Now I have it installed and working perfectly! This is how I managed to install it without administrator permissions: • Download to your hard disk. • Extract the file in the archive. You can use any program capable of opening.zip files (, or the free and great ). There are also websites which can uncompress archives:. • Copy the file NPSWF32.dll to%APPDATA% Mozilla Plugins •%APPDATA% is not a real folder. It's an alias. By inserting it in your address bar, you'll be redirected to the real folder which holds your applications profiles and settings. The location of this folder depends on various setting that's why we need the alias and not an absolute path. • You can open this folder simply choosing 'Start → Run → Type in%APPDATA% → OK'. They also propose another way, and i haven't tried it yet: To install the plug-in normally in some XP machine with Firefox (which will require admin rights) and then copy the file NPSWF32.dll from the plug-in directory into the same dir in the other machine. • In case you don't have a Plugins folder you can create one and place your files there. • Restart Firefox • Enjoy your flash websites! Reference: on. Update for recent versions of Mozilla Firefox: 1. Open a Virtual Machine/donor computer with throwaway OS. Update to the latest Mozilla Firefox. Run the Adobe Flash Webinstaller to install flash. Locate the directory containing flashplayer.xpt and NPSWF32_AA_B_CCC_DD.dll. Save the two files elsewhere, close the VM. Update the client computer to the latest Mozilla Firefox. Copy both files to%ProgramFiles% Mozilla Firefox browser plugins (create subdirectories, if necessary) and restart the browser. If you’re trying to either install Adobe Flash into a Firefox install on a computer you don’t have admin rights on, or install it into Portable Firefox, then you’re probably having trouble. The solution is relatively simple considering Adobe Flash runs off of only just two files! Just copy those files and you’re set., then use a program such as WinRAR or PeaZip to “extract the.EXE file”. Then find the files flashplayer.xpt and NPSWF32.dll which you already extracted, and copy those to the folder Moziilla Firefox/plugins. Restart Firefox, and it’s really as simple as that! Another option if for some reason this doesn’t work though it should, is to download this extension and install it inside firefox.
